Rural business challenges and opportunities in the green transition
The project aims to create and disseminate evidence-based knowledge about where in the country the green transition presents challenges for business to a particular extent (e.g. through decline in particularly climate-exposed, “black” industries) and where the transition soon/also contains positive business opportunities (e.g. through the establishment of new enterprises with “green” goods and services). The project includes a statistics-based delineation of “black” and “green” industries respectively and a detailed mapping of how these two occupational groups have developed in recent years in municipalities, districts and types of municipalities, and on the other hand qualitative case studies of “green business development” in selected rural municipalities. Among other things, through an associated group of experts in the field of business promotion, we also want to develop recommendations on how decentralised business promoters can support green transition and business development in change-challenged and change-dynamic rural areas and smaller towns respectively.
