Research projects

Our research projects provide new knowledge relevant to both the academic community and for decision-makers in public institutions, as well as business and community actors.

Most of our research projects combine qualitative and quantitative methods and data.

Our research interests and projects are characterized by  close contact with local stakeholders, ensuring that  the projects are  relevant and application-oriented.

Some research projects are instigated and conducted independently by us, while others are part of  larger national and international research collaborations.

Synergy between research and analysis

Analyses and research projects at CRT inform and enrich each other. Our  analyses are demand-driven, providing  application-oriented knowledge to relevant stakeholders.

This interaction between analysis and research work gives us an opportunity to stay current and contribute to new knowledge trends, while  allowing us to frame emerging  issues and knowledge needs within a broader  theoretical framework.

We use both  qualitative and quantitative methods to describe, understand and explain patterns and changes in the work we engage with.

Knowledge fields are built up over time

Our work is project-based. Societal agendas and theoretical understandings of them have shifted many times during CRT’s 30-year history. Through our research projects, we have built up a number of knowledge fields. This is reflected in our research projects, which in particular have contributed with knowledge on:

  • Business development, knowledge dynamics and innovation
  • Mobility, labour, and education
  • Circular economy, tourism and destination development
  • Translocal perspectives on place development
  • Energy and green transformation and the local and regional level
